Lakeside Coastal Village
Between the Lake and the Sea on Hayling Island
Lakeside , sits peacefully on the coast of Hayling Island in Hampshire. Originally called ‘Coronation’ to mark the accession in 1937 of King George VI, co-opted during World War II as a naval barracks and designated HMS Northney, Lakeside’s convivial atmosphere and all-round good cheer is today utterly infectious.

From the moment you’re greeted by an appropriately regal squadron of swans in the eponymous lake to your first leisurely stroll around the small central square, you’re struck by the village-like sense of community and wellbeing. As with any thriving village there’s lots to do, from the bars, café and nightly entertainment to tennis, pitch ‘n’ putt, archery, championship-standard indoor bowls, swimming pool, steam room and sauna. Neat, well-appointed chalets are laid out with every thought for your ease and convenience.

Yet if you prefer a little occasional solitude and contemplation, the tranquillity of Lakeside ’s location a pebble’s throw from the Solent, with fine landscaped gardens and idyllic views across the nearby marina is sure to make you reach instinctively for easel and canvas. Further afield, your attractions multiply. Try the ancient market town of Arundel, with its impressive castle and many antique and craft shops, or the handsome city of Chichester with its harbour aspects and astonishing Norman cathedral, and of course, Portsmouth Harbour, where the 170m Spinnaker Tower peers down on the high-tech modern warships of the Royal Navy and their comparatively modest, yet hugely fascinating, earlier counterparts HMS Warrior, HMS Victory and the Mary Rose. Lakeside is so named for the large lake in its grounds, teeming with wildlife, most notably the majestic swans which glide leisurely by. It’s idyllically calm, surrounded by beautiful trees, and landscaped with colourful floral borders and flowerbeds.
But it’s ultimately the welcoming atmosphere of Lakeside and the easy amiability of your Warners hosts that’ll make your holiday as memorable as you want it to be. Helpful, friendly and down-to-earth, it’s small wonder we welcome the same blissfully happy guests year after year.
