Great North Run Hotels 2009

Being a runner who has run the Great North Run three years in a row here is my guide to hotels for The Great North Run.

Obviously you want a hotel near the start and here are my top 3 hotels:

The Copthorne Hotel – (£67ish a night) - This is my favourite hotel as its very near the start and they have a sauna and steam room so great for unwinding after the race.

The Caledonian Hotel – (£76ish a night) - The rooms can have DVD players so perfect for relaxing and taking your mind off the run - can't remember if the DVD player were extra or not.

The County Hotel – (£71ish a nigh) - Popular hotel with runners, I guess as its near the start and a chain good name.

Sadly often hotels put the prices up for race day – they know people will book! However if you book via Hotels.com they do a price promise, so you are guaranteed the best rate.

Last Minute Great North Run Hotels...

I have before forgot to book a hotel, what with all the training and the race in my head, and found that Laterooms often have rooms left.
