YORKSHIRE DALES
The Yorkshire Dales epitomises a picture postcard English country landscape. Each dale has its own, distinct character and this is reflected in the villages and market towns where you can shop for local produce and crafts or seek out one of those renowned tea rooms or pubs serving good food and local ales. Many of the lochs offer a wide range of water based activities including sailing, canoeing and wind surfing. Scotland is famed for the quality of its fishing and golf courses and enthusiasts of either pursuit are sure to be spoilt for choice.
DERBYSHIRE DALES
The two Peak District towns of Buxton and Matlock both developed as spa towns and boast fine architecture and great shopping opportunities whether you’re looking for antiques, boutiques or local crafts and produce. Throughout the year the area hosts a range of festivals and activities including Buxton’s annual musical festival which attracts artists and musicians from all over the world. One strange custom which takes place in villages all over Derbyshire is Well Dressing and involves decorating wells and springs with pictures created from living materials.
The Cheviot Hills and Northern Pennines, the historic walled border town of Berwick-Upon-Tweed, mile after mile of golden beaches, historic sites galore and the contrasting cities of Durham and Newcastle make this the perfect area for holidays full of variety and contrast.
