Along with the deep, dense forests and breathtaking mountain ranges that dominate its interior, it offers contrast after contrast, from rich cultural traditions to the purpose-built resorts that line its scenic Black Sea coast, where broad, Blue Flag sandy beaches meet inviting blue waters along almost 400 kilometres of shore line.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO
Bulgaria’s towering mountains, deep valleys and aboundant flora and fauna make it a nature - and sport-lover’s paradise, with fabulous opportunities for walking, hiking and mountain biking. Studded with mountain villages, medieval monestries, fragrant rose fields and plunging waterfalls, the hinterland presents explorers with a myrid of sights and experiences.
Bulgaria is also renowned for its rich cultural heritage, which is displayed in its seasonal festivals, ritual folk dances and its brightly coloured, decrotive national costume. Throughout the summer, regular cultural folk festivals are held in different parts of the country.
FOOD AND DRINK
Bulgarian food is a blend of Slavonic, Greek and Turkish cuisine, and includes specialities such as Shopska salad (tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and sheep’s cheese), and trator (chilled cucumber, walnut and yogurt soup).
Other musts include Kebapcheta (Kebabs) Kavarma, (individual casseroles of pork or veal with onions and mushrooms) shish kebab, moussaka and Bulgarian yogurt. Wash your meals down with the local, fruity wines or cold beer - they are very cheap compared to home.
