 Stocking Filler ideasTraditionally, children will hang their stockings on the fire-place on Christmas Eve so that Father Christmas (or Santa if you prefer) can fill it with small toys, sweets, and small gifts when he visits. If my childhood is anything to go by, then he normally also left a satsuma (which always went back into the fruitbowl) and some walnuts?!? These gifts are known as "Stocking fillers", and are quite often the only gifts the child will receive from Santa himself. As time has gone by, it's not only children who put their stockings out on Christmas Eve, and nowaday you can buy stockings (and of course stocking fillers) for adults too, and even for cats and dogs! It's never easy to know what to put into a Christmas Stocking. The tradition is to put something in the stocking that will stimulate each of the five senses (Touch, sound, smell, taste and sight) so that could be a soft toy, something that makes a noise, some smellies, sweets and some jewellery or similar that looks appealing.
