Laptop skins, jackets,
covers - what are they?
Laptop skins
(aka jackets or covers) are decorative high quality vinyl images that
you apply to the lid of your laptop computer or notebook PC to give it
a new look and protect it. Here are some of the many 100's of designs
available. Click one of the images to view.
Skins
are:
- Made
from high quality adhesive vinyl and laminate composite

- Can be

Create your own laptop
skin design
The other
option is to get creative and make your own design and this is how to
do it:
- Upload
an image and the designers will make it into a personalised skin to
fit your laptop.
- We'll
advise you what format to send the image in and how to do it. Ideally
it should be an image file in PDF format and in landscape ratio (size
45cm x 30cm) and 200dpi. The file size will probably need to be at least
25MB in size to get the right quality. You must own the copyright of
the image and it must not be inappropriate imagery (no Paris Hilton
video clip stills-type images or that sort of thing).
- The sort
of image you can send includes photos of loved ones, pets, cars, scenery
or your own artwork for example
- Allow
14 days for delivery and note that someone has to be around to sign
for the laptop skins when they arrive so no post office box numbers
please.

How to apply laptop
skins to a computer
Visit
www.laptogs.co.uk for a photo guide to fitting laptop skins
- Firstly,
shut the laptop's lid and make sure it is clean, dry and free of dust.
- Remove
your laptop skin from its packaging. Note that any slight creasing of
the backing is normal and will disappear as you smooth out your skin.
- Take your
new laptop skin and lay it on a flat surface such as a computer desk
or table. Note where the top and bottom of the skin image are.
- Carefully
peel back a corner of the laptop skin backing and roll back the first
2 centimetres of the bottom edge of the skin's image and fold it over.
- Pick up
the skin and position it over your computer so that the bottom edge
of the skin and the area from which you have removed the backing are
lined up with the edge of the lid nearest the laptop's hinge.
- Then,
slowly pull away the rest of the backing sheet whilst smoothing the
skin gently to avoid the possibility of bubbles forming. You could use
a ruler to ensure that you smooth the skin gently. NB: While applying
the skin be careful to prevent it from sticking to itself. If you do
get bubbles just pull up the edge closest to them and re-apply the skin
whilst smoothing them away.
How to remove a laptop
skin
(or what to do
if you apply it upside down)
- With the
lid of your computer or notebook PC closed, gently peel up a corner
of the skin with a fingernail.
- Then gradually
pull the skin parallel to the laptop lid (i.e. back on itself). Do not
be tempted to pull the skin at right angles to the lid of your computer
or to jerk, yank or tug it.
LapJacks(TM)
skins leave no residue once removed.
What to do with a
laptop cover once it's been removed
A laptop
cover that has been applied to a computer and then removed can be stored
on the original backing or any shiny surface.
So, you could
put it on your fridge or on the side of your filing cabinet to brighten
up your office.
