Orange iPhone - Compare Tariffs and Buy the iPhone on Orange

In September 2009, Orange UK and Apple reached an agreement that the iPhone would be coming to customers before the end of the year. They announced that the iPhone would be available on both contract and pay as you go through their high street shops, online and through telesales channels. Orange already has the iPhone in 28 other countries around the world but bringing the iPhone to the UK is a massive deal for the company. Previously o2 had held exclusive rights to market the Apple iPhone in this country but this deal is set to end on the 9th November 2009.

Better 3G Coverage

When the iPhone is released on Orange one of the main advantages of buying it is that they have a bigger 3G infrastructure than any other UK network, (much bigger than o2's) which means that iPhone apps can be downloaded at faster speeds from anywhere in the country. Regardless of how much better the 3G network is on Orange, another network releasing iPhone handsets should be great news for consumers as it may start a price war. However like on o2 the Apple iPhone will still be a premium product so huge price cuts will probably not be on the cards.

Update 6: Finally the iPhone is released on the Orange network - After all the waiting the iPhone is released on the Orange network and is available to buy from Mobiles.co.uk.

Update 5 - Other Retails Selling Orange iPhone - Mobiles.co.uk who are owned by The Car Phone warehouse have announced that they will be one of very few online retailers selling the Orange iPhone from the 10th November.

Update 4 - Tariffs Released - Orange have released the iPhone tariffs which see the 3G (8GB) being free on a £30 24 month contract with 150 minutes x network, 250 texts and unlimited data / Wi-Fi. The 3GS will be free on a 24 month contract starting at £45 / month. To buy the iPhone 3G on pay as you go will be £343 and the 16GB 3GS will be £539. By topping up £10 credit you will get 250 Mb of Mobile Internet and unlimited Wi-Fi. All tariffs can be found above.

Update 3 - iPhone on Orange expected release date is 10th November 2009 - o2's Exclusivity deal runs out on the 9th November and according to retail staff and managers the Apple iPhone 3G 8GB and iPhone 3GS will be released the following day. Phones4u are also rumoured to stock the iPhone handsets on the Orange network once released.

Update 2 - Prices / Tariffs to be released on 4th November 2009 - Orange haven't yet release their iPhone tariffs or prices but according to information from the company these will be released on the 4th November maybe at slightly lower prices / better tariffs than o2. iPhone tariffs are expected to include unlimited data and UK Wi-Fi access.

Update 1 - Apple iPhone Officially Coming to Orange UK - The iPhone is coming to Orange UK at last ending o2's exclusivity deal with iPhone Manufacturers, Apple. According to Orange, customers in the UK will be able to buy the handset on both contract and pay as you go before Christmas this year.
