| Bingo Phrases
Bingo phrases are helpful in noisy halls. When along with the number the caller uses bingo phrases it not only helps in making clarifications but also adds humor and wit to the thrilling game. To understand the bingo numbers or nicknames one should remember the rhyming words or any other logical connection that goes with the number.
‘Kelly’s eye’ refers to number 1, ‘one little duck’ is a common call for number 2. Adding rhyme to the number adds color to the game. ‘Man alive’ rhymes well with five and with number 41 ‘time for fun’ ‘flea’ rhymes well with number 3. Once you have got the hang of rhyming words you could even convert it into phrases, such as ‘two little fleas’ for number 33 or say 37 ‘flea in heaven’.
You could also think of logical explanation to describe a number, use the phrase ‘three dozen’ for the number 36 and ‘trombones’ could be used to describe the number 76. You could also use phrases or words according to the appearance of the number. ‘Crutch’ could be used for number 7 and ‘eight with a blank’ could be used for the number 80. ‘Two fat ladies’ is used to express number 88. Though certain phrases sound impolite, it is should be accepted as harmless fun.
The bingo phrases used by callers add fun to the bingo night. When the number 11 is called out it is a common practice among men to wolf whistle and clunk the drinking glasses.
Unfortunately the art of bingo calling is dying slowly. Computer drawn numbers have today replaced the traditional system of calling out phrases or words along with the number. But there is still no harm in keeping oneself updated with the phrases.
